Privacy Policy

OwnerNumbers is a calculator site for small business owners. We don't sell ads, we don't track you across the web, and we don't want any data we don't need. This policy is the plain-English version of what that actually means.

What we collect

When you use a calculator: nothing leaves your browser. The numbers you enter, the results you see, the PDFs you generate — all of it is computed on your device. We don't see what you typed in, and we don't store it on a server.

When you load a page: we use Plausible Analytics to count page views in aggregate. Plausible doesn't use cookies, doesn't set persistent identifiers, and doesn't collect personal data. We see things like "the gross-margin calculator got 240 visits last week" and "most visits come from Canada and the US." We don't see who you are. When you sign up for the newsletter: we collect your email address and pass it to Beehiiv, the email service we use to send the newsletter. We use this to send you the issues you signed up for and nothing else. Unsubscribe links are in every email. Beehiiv's privacy policy is at beehiiv.com/privacy.

What we store on your device: a couple of small pieces of state in your browser's localStorage — your selected currency (so it persists between visits), and a flag that remembers when you've dismissed the homepage onboarding banner. These never leave your device. You can clear them anytime by clearing your browser's storage for this site.

What we don't collect

To be explicit: we don't collect your financial statements, your business's revenue, your name, your address, your phone number, your IP address (Plausible hashes IPs and discards them daily), your behaviour across other sites, or anything else that would let us identify you personally. We don't use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party tracking tools.

What we share

The only third parties that ever see your data are:

• Beehiiv — gets your email if you subscribe to the newsletter. They use it to send the newsletter on our behalf.
• Plausible Analytics — sees aggregate page-view data with no personal information attached. They use it to give us aggregate analytics.
• Vercel — hosts the site. Their servers handle the requests when you load a page. Vercel's privacy policy is at vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

We don't sell, rent, or share your data for advertising or marketing purposes. We don't share data with anyone outside the providers above.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. Practically, the only personal information we have is your email address (if you subscribed to the newsletter), so:

• To unsubscribe: click the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email. Takes effect immediately.
• To delete your email from our system entirely: email us at the address below and we'll remove it from Beehiiv. Within 30 days, usually within a few.
• To see what we have on you: the answer is "your email address and when you subscribed." If you want it confirmed in writing, email us.

If you're in the EU, UK, or California and you have specific rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA respectively (right to access, right to portability, right to deletion, and so on), we honour all of them. Email us and we'll handle the request.

Data retention

Newsletter subscriber emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Plausible analytics data is retained per Plausible's own retention policy. localStorage on your device persists until you clear it.

Children

OwnerNumbers is built for business owners and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has signed up for the newsletter, email us and we'll remove them.

Changes to this policy

If we change anything substantive, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, for changes that meaningfully affect what we collect or share, we'll mention it in a newsletter issue so subscribers know. We won't change this policy retroactively to use data we previously collected in ways we didn't disclose at the time.

OwnerNumbers is operated as a sole proprietorship based in Alberta, Canada. The site is subject to Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA). When we say "we" in this policy we mean the operator; when we say "you" we mean the visitor.
